Avoid a low monthly fee by maintaining a minimum daily balance and using your Visa® Debit Card.

Each statement cycle, your account must meet the following two conditions:
The maintenance fee will be waived.
  1. A minimum daily balance of $1,000.00 must be maintained throughout the statement cycle
    AND
  2. A minimum of 8 Point of Sale (POS) purchases must be made using your linked Visa® Debit Card throughout the statement cycle

Electronic Checking

Easy to waive monthly fees* The monthly service fee may be waived by signing up for electronic statements, direct deposits and by using your Visa® Debit Card!

Each statement cycle that your account meets the following conditions;
The maintenance fee will be waived.
  1. A minimum of 2 Direct Deposits totaling up to $500.00 within the statement cycle
  2. A minimum of 1 Point of Sale (POS) purchases must be made using your Visa® Debit Card throughout the statement cycle

Student Checking

Starting out as a young adult can be challenging, so let us help make it a little easier for you. Members ages 13 through 24 are eligible for a Student Checking Account! This account type is free of monthly service fees and includes a Student Visa® Debit Card

The OSCU Student Checking is an excellent first account for young adults and teens who want to learn more about managing their finances and achieving their goals.

For applicants under the legal age of 18, the Parent/Guardian (”Joint Owner”) will assume full responsibility for all transactions and usage of a VISA DEBIT CARD, Online/Mobile Banking, or other Electronic Services conducted through this account. By opening this account the Joint Owner agrees to these terms and conditions that are provided at account opening.

1 Usage limits on Student Visa® Debit Card can be set and lowered by the Adult Owner on the account at the time of account opening. Limits available upon request.

Account type is limited to those members between the ages of 13 and 24. At 25 account will be converted into a Personal Checking Account. Please review your Truth in Savings Disclosure or speak to one of our Member Service Representatives for more information.

Overdraft Privilege Service – You Must Opt In for this Service.

  • $500.00 that Ocean State Credit Union may cover in the event of an overdraft
  • Returned Checks and Automatic Withdrawals (ACH) will be honored up to that amount.
  • Fee is $30.00 per transaction

You MUST OPT-IN for Ocean State Credit Union to authorize and pay overdrafts for ATM Transactions and OSCU Visa® Debit Check Card transactions. If you do NOT OPT-IN for this service, your ATM Transaction or OSCU Visa® Debit Card transaction will be declined (review the details of “OPT IN / OPT OUT for Overdraft Services” via the Opt-In link).

Overdraft Protection Linked to Statement Savings Account

  • Draws from your own Statement Savings Account in the event of an overdraft.
  • Fee is $5.00 per transaction
  • Returned Checks and OSCU Visa® Debit Card transactions will be honored up to the amount that is available in your Statement Savings Account.

Overdraft Line of Credit 

  • A convenient way to avoid checking overdrafts.
  • Overdraft Line of Credit is available up to the amount of $1,000.00.
  • Payments are 5% of the outstanding balance, but never less than $25.00 per month. 
  • Advances are granted in increments of $50.00.
  • Overdraft Line is determined upon credit pre-qualfication through Consumer Loan application.
  • A 15.00% APR interest rate is applicable while Line of Credit is in use.

OSCU Visa® Debit Card 

An Ocean State Credit Union Visa® Debit Card that works like a check, only better! When making purchases, the amount purchased is deducted directly from your Ocean State Credit Union Checking Account. The OSCU Visa® Debit Card is valid anywhere that Visa® is accepted.

How Does it Work?

Debit Card transactions are automatically deducted from your OSCU Checking Account and typically posted within 24 hours of your purchase. So you may check your updated balance and transaction record via your Online Banking services at OceanStateCU.org or dial into the Telephone Banking system at (800) 822-8077.

Account Tracking

You will be able to track your transactions each month when you receive your Checking Account Statement with the details of each purchase including merchant name, location, date and amount. If you’re signed up for online and mobile banking you have the added benefit of being able to track your accounts over the internet.

Card Management for Online and Mobile

Protect your Ocean State Credit Union cards by sending you transaction alerts and giving you the ability to define when, where and how your cards are used. Simply log into your Online or Mobile Banking, then customize your alert preferences and usage settings to monitor and manage your cards.

Pay with your Mobile Wallet

Make payments using your mobile device. The following services are available with your Ocean State Visa® Debit and Credit Cards using both Apple and Android Devices

OSCU Visa® Debit Card Monitoring and Alerts 

Real Time Fraud Detection

All Ocean State Visa® Debit Cards are monitored in real time to detect and protect against potential fraud. Members will receive alerts from our Fraud Protection Services through Text Messages, Telephone or by Mail if an unusual transaction is identified.
As a new feature, Text Messaging Alerts will be available to Members with Mobile numbers on file. With this added feature, keeping your card safe is as easy as a text. Your Debit Card security is our top priority. That’s why we’ve added text alerts as part of our ongoing fraud monitoring program.

Text Messaging Alerts

Members that provide a mobile number on file will receive Fraud Text Alerts for Visa® Debit Card transactions automatically.  This option gives our members the ability to mark transactions as legitimate or fraudulent in order to keep your Debit Card Secure.

Program 37268 into your mobile contacts as “OSCU Fraud Alert” to ensure you know it’s from this service.

If you receive a text message review the transaction.

  • Respond NO and the transaction will be marked as a fraud
  • You will receive notification from our fraud department on how to proceed
  • Fraud department call 844-436-1738.
  • Replacement Cards / Card Services call 877-397-1900 option 5, then option 4
  • Respond YES and the transaction will be considered legitimate. Please attempt transaction again.

Though this benefit is something that we hope enriches all of our member’s experience, we do understand if you wish to opt out of Text Messaging Alerts. Once your first fraud alert comes through, simply reply STOP and you will no longer receive Text Message Alerts.
